Dave has always wanted to live in Colorado. We started looking for homes in the summer of 2010 with a trip out to southern Colorado. In the following years we made additional trips to Colorado in addition to the northwestern part of the United States and the Outer Banks on the east coast. The problem was finding a home that came close to our haven in the Red River Gorge…a very high standard we had set for ourselves. Our RRG cabin sits on top of a mountain in the middle of the woods. It’s small and quiet…and simply perfect. We found ourselves wishing we could just pick up the square mile surrounding us and move it to Colorado.
Finally after a five year search, we found the absolute perfect place for us…in Southern Colorado where our journey began. We are located in the San Luis Valley in a tiny town called Saguache. We knew. We knew as soon as we stepped out of the truck. It was the same feeling we get when we come up our driveway that leads to our cabin after a few days away from home. Home…that’s a good word for it. We felt like we had found home.
While it’s drastically different from the gorge (not one tree on our 40 acres in Colorado while our cabin in the RRG was built surrounded by trees) it still makes us smile every time we come up the drive way.
So here are a few photos of our Colorado home…where we live part-time during the winter months.
